Solo Exhibition at Skoufa Gallery, Athens | 3-28 June 2025

Opening: Tuesday 3rd June 2025, 19:30 – 21:30

Skoufa Gallery happily presents Katerina Moraitou Markianou’s solo exhibition, ‘birds and stories’ which opens on the 3rd and will run until the 28th of June 2025.

As the artist mentions, she deals with a selection of birds, small and large, pretty or graceless, in a variety of colors, all parts of a sublime color spectrum created by nature. They narrate not only their stories, but also human stories, our planet’s stories or stories about our existence, they connect us with the roots of our Creation and as a result, love emerges from within ourselves. Birds are somewhat unearthly because they can fly high in the sky and get closer to the stars and the universe while feeling the infinite, the mysterious and the instinctive.

Through this path, thoughts, experiences, doubts and attitudes emerge and birds become symbols with emotional, philosophical and poetic meanings. Birds are a wonderful chapter of nature not only because of their colors, shapes and sounds but also because of the way they connect with each other and us. They have great intelligence, they calculate, they select, they solve problems and they also communicate, they sing, they fly, they chase, they fish, they build, they flirt with dances, they compete, they protect and care for their young ones, all according to the conditions of their natural habitat. This is the reason why those who live close to humans have adapted and created bonds with them.

Flying means moving, searching, migrating, escaping, avoiding, moving to live in better places in order to save yourself in order to prosper. When flying, you see the world from above, you take a distance from everything and you see things clearly, you see depth, a horizon, the future, the immensity and this way you relax in the present.
