On Staurday the 13th of December 2014 at 12 p.m., the group exhibition titled ‘Script’ will open at Skoufa Gallery. The exhibition will close on Saturday 10th of January 2015.
Through the work of 16 contemporary Greek artists, the group art exhibition Script traces the routes of script from the written text to the painterly brushstroke. Script in painting has often fascinated the artists who attempt to integrate the image and the process of writing in their work as an inextricable part of it.
In the exhibition Script the relationship between writing inside a painterly work is looked into in a twofold way: Script as an organic element of a work – as part of the painting’s composition and structural element – but also as meaning, constituting either the cause behind the birth of a work or the capping stone of its mood.
What is sought after in Script are works which succeed, from the most literal to the most abstract approach of the written word, to integrate in them both these functions of script at the same time –image and concept.
