Kanenas: In pursuit of an identity

On Friday 11th June 2015, at 7.30pm, Skoufa Gallery opens Alexandros Maganiotis’ solo painting exhibition with the title “Nobody: seeking an identity”. The exhibition will run until Monday 29th June 2015.
Inspired by Homer’s Odyssey, Alexandros Maganiotis describes the pursuit for an identity through his unique, imaginative technique of painting montage. Odysseus is transposed into modern times: he wanders in contemporary Athens and shares our experiences of the city.
The difficulties and the needs one faces when living in a city are reflected on these paintings which comment the identity of the inhabitants of big cities. Maganiotis intertwines Odysseus’ myth with the ancient and folk Greek tradition, the multi-cultural character and the architectural landscape of the city. He narrates a personal experience with which any Greek or European citizen can be identified.
