10 May 2011 - 31 May 2011

On Tuesday May 10th 2011, 7.30 p.m. at Skoufa Gallery we inaugurate the painting exhibition by Catherine Folatre.

The French artist settled in Greece since several years sharing her life between Athens and the Cyclades. She was born in Paris, lived in New York till her coming of age and returned in France where she studied at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Modernes and the Académie Charpentier of Paris. The introduction to the internationally famous French sculpturer Caesar, her mentor, has been particularly decisive. In the art dictionary Catherine Folatre is registered as « The Benezit », the famous blue color, known also as « Blue Folatre ». Her painting- usually works of big dimensions on acrylic colors- have reached important personalities of Arts and Letters like the poet Jacques Prevert and Sergio Leone, film director of Once Upon a Time in America.

The historian and critic of art Thaleia Stefanidou, curator of Catherine Folatre’s exhibition “Le Ciel Peux Attendre” at the French Institute of Thessaloniki in Autumn 2009, notes : ” with the sophisticated theatricality of the comic element, with archetypal symbols, with references to pop culture and art-naïf in familiar and daily environments, Catherine Folatre creates her art introductions with intense colored varnishes. A comfortable and carefree painting act that almost exudes a childhood. Her painting contemplation brings the sense of revelation of the unprecedented, the wonder of the first look…”
