Dimitris Katsigiannis
en plein air
Opening: Tuesday 11th February 2025, 19:30 – 21:30
Duration: 11th February – 1st March 2025
Skoufa Gallery happily presents Dimitri Katsigiannis’ new solo exhibition with the title ‘en plein air’ which opens on Tuesday 11th February 2025, at 19:30-21:30 and will run until the 1st March 2025.
Katsigiannis’ new exhibition includes portraits of plants and Cretan landscapes in a series of small and large watercolors. His technique is based on geometrical drawing, on the observation and the depiction of details and of the light ‘en plein air’. Inspired by the Byzantine and the Chinese art, Katsigiannis creates ‘imprints’ and arabesques of a timeless, unchanged subject. His paintings exist in the present, while they reflect the past and capture the future.
In the catalogue that accompanies the exhibition, Periandros I. Epitropakis, mentions that: “Like a geometer, Katsigiannis studies, isolates and records with his paint brush the absolutely necessary elements of the sequences through which things are composed and revealed to him. In this way, and by abolishing every known stereotype, Katsigiannis’ artistic expression acquires a purely revelatory character of the essence of things, leading us mystically to the anarchic perfect universe of Creation. Through his parabolic images we can perceive more gently the inexpressible of the world, and be led to a timeless transcendence of the ephemeral nature of the cosmic existence of everything”.
