Searching for the end – Odyssey
07.05 – 27.05/2015
On Friday 7th May at 7.30pm, Skoufa Gallery opens Stathis Petropoulos’s solo exhibition of illustrations with the title “Seeking the End, Odyssey”. The exhibition will run until Wednesday 27th May 2015.
As the title of the exhibition implies, Petropoulos’s illustrations deal with Odysseus’s difficult return journey to Ithaka. The artist inspired by Homer’s second epic poem, proposes a new reading for it while remaining loyal to the original text.
The illustrations are Petropoulos’s personal interpretation of Odysseus’s journey back home and of the challenges that he dealt with caused by the gods or nature itself.
All his artworks reflect the Homeric atmosphere, so well described in Homer’s verses. They have strong compositions with theatrical elements and a specific color scheme. The characters and the scenes depicted are carefully selected by the artist in order to show one’s constant quest for one’s distant but final destination as well as all the accompanying emotional charges and interpretations of one’s trip.
