Invisible Threads

07.04 – 09.05/2016

What does the artist do? He draws connections. He ties the invisible threads between things. He dives into history, be it the history of mankind, the geological history of the Earth or the beginning and end of the manifest cosmos.
AnselmKiefer

The exhibition showcases a series of two-dimensional and three- dimensional works of medium and large size, where the symbolic subjects and the objects of the artist’s conceptual and tactile memory are rescued from oblivion and become incorporated in the painting and embossed field, suggesting independent new universes susceptible to multiple interpretations.

The artist’s third solo exhibition proposes a series of unadorned “weavings” of sites and trains of thought on monochrome plains where the insertion of objects is sometimes defined by the design, whereas other times they are literally adjoined, delimited by wire, plastic or textile yarns. The modular plastic body of the meccano, the geometric shapes (triangle, square, circle or semicircle), the organic living images and the uses of symbols, such as the fish or the lantern-eye, suspended within the strict limits set by the artist, palpitate between the yarns she handles like strings from a musical instrument, or they are pinned like precious connotative signals onto abstract monochromatic surfaces of wood or canvas.

In this way, Meletopoulou reconsiders and rewrites, deconstructs and reconstructs the web of her personal, as well as her surrounding world, maintaining the simple purity of line and colour as a key component of an autonomous reality where giving shape does not at any ratenullify the poetry of designing.
