Skoufa Gallery presents a new solo exhibition of Tasos Mantzavinos entitled “the crypt”. The exhibition includes a series of paintings and handmade constructions that result from his continuous work during the last two years and are references to his own painting idiom, recognizable as well as enigmatic. The exhibition opens on Thursday, October 20 and will run until November 12, 2022.
Already since the 1980s, Tasos Mantzavinos has established his own personal artistic style through painting and constructions. is world is a collection of memories, experiences and emotions with obvious influences from mythology, Christian tradition and popular iconography.
Through his art, Mantzavinos focuses on the journey of life and the difficulties it entails. Christian figures of Saints, priests, and even the artist himself, are the protagonists of their own adventures, who through myths, symbols and stories fight in their own spiritual journey full of difficulties and challenges.
However, as difficult as this route may be, it is the magic of the journey that matters. Through the expression of his painting, he exorcises the difficulties and fears he faces. What Mantzavinos’ art offers us, is both the emotion and intensity of difficulties, as well as the hope and strength to overcome them
