Seeking a new light

13.2 – 7.03/2020

Skoufa Gallery presents Thanassis Makris’ solo painting exhibition «Seeking a new light» on Thursday 13th February, at 7:30 pm. The exhibition will run until Saturday, 7th March 2020.

Thanassis Makris’ new painting exhibition consists of thirty oil paintings on wood made the last 4 years. His oeuvre condenses the imprint of his personal artistic achievements. His landscape accomplishments, with the latent perspective and the abstract form, bring to light a series of unique images of Greek countryside. The artist, with quick but controlled gestures, since there is a would-be drawing in his paintings and the adoption of mainly warm colours, approaches the momentary with the vanishing Greek light. Makris creates undivided chromatic atmospheres, which empower the sense of contemplation and the vigilance of thought.

The painter works tirelessly, sometimes with photographs and other times by seeing nature with a naked eye. He depicts Greece with his own eyes, from Kalamata and Naxos to those boats which continue to sail away to the endless seas. Makris’ deep aperture define the statement of a painter who anchor an expression which shelves the greek senses, not in terms of a naturist, but with the confrontation with the shining light. The painting landscapes with the Mediterranean atmosphere, attempt to express the freedom against the everending power of light, exuding awe and respect.
