Skoufa Gallery happily presents Vangelis Rinas’ new solo exhibition titled “Breath” which opens on Thursday 3rd April 2025 at 19.30 and will run until the 3rd of May 2025.

For this exhibition, Rinas paints girls – women inside forests, embraced, fascinated by nature’s revival, by its sounds, scents and power.

His women experience life as in a vision, consciously referring to all the women from the past, who lived, struggled, were sacrificed, gave birth, left their creations behind and made our life better.

The paintings like short prayers, reflect female nature’s metaphysical energy, its divine breath in a clear, translucent way.

Dr Dora Iliopoulou-Rogan mentions that “in ‘Breath’, Rinas orchestrates a laborious task in which the artistic expression is fully identified with poetry itself, while any common boundary between them is transformed into an ethereal Breath. A breath that on the whole transfers the power of the artist’s inspiration and his mental elation.

The choreographer Dapni Antoniadou, whose creative collaboration is a source of inspiration for the artist, mentions that “time runs in a childish manner all life’s tension in an instant, as a choreography created by us, before us”. And she continues “We are part of the forest, of nature’s game, self-existing and deterministic creatures in femininity’s wetland”.

The neurologist and writer Nontas Tsigas, mentions that “in the center of almost every painting, colors and blooming life are salvaged by the sleep or the erotic ecstasy of the female bodies, naked or semi-naked. In the whiteness of the canvas, the charcoal drawing, flawlessly preserved, emerges and gives shape to the figures and their limbs…. in a forest that welcomes Spring and the silent mourning for the human vicinity, in a more philosophical, erotic, rather poetic and religious expression of love: the cuddle, the liberated embrace, which was scarce in a period of assassinations, of unpunished femicides, of confinement, of isolation, of a neurotic people’s depersonalization”.
